Visapur Fort is one of the twin fort that stands side by side. The other fort is Lohagad fort. One day one of friend said let go to Lohagad, I already have visited Lohagad fort and found pretty simple as there good condition stairs to the top and virtually turned the offer, but then I found out about Visapur the just beside Lohagad, I didn’t know any prior information about this but set out for some adventure. 😉

Visapur Fort trek is through dense plantation and there is proper trek path available to the top.

How to reach:

Best Option always has been private vehicle which you can take it till Bhaje Village where you have an option to pay and park.

If this is not in your options lost you can also reach the fort by Local Train. Travelling from Pune you can take Lonavala Local and get down a stop before Lonavala Malavli Station. Generally people start from this station which is about 4 kms but you can also take rickshaws from here.

The trek path here is pretty confusing there is no concrete pat to reach the top. If you are unaware you might even be lost in the jungle. For us we were pretty lucky we found red marks which we followed to reach the top and even the people who just descended from the fort. Well these red marks stop mid way near a waterfall, we thought that we got a roadblock and it will be pain searching through dense forest to reach the top. This tour was taken on 2nd August 2014 when monsoon was at its peak and the area was pretty muddy.

When tried to find out the path to the top, just realized that we have to trek along the waterfall to be on the top. Oh that was something pretty adventurous. Some said that is a terrible idea we should return back and go to Lohagad to enjoy, but finally after pushing all to co-operate it was Visapur and we are up to the challenge to reach the top along waterfall. Some might get confused with this, yes it was a waterfall but not as steep as you would imagine. It was certainly not the waterfall along the cliff but a bit slope where water was gushing down rapidly.

The rocks along waterfall were pretty slippery at it was very risky, as we were ascending there was also concern how would we come back down but the enthusiasm to be on the top was much more than this concern. It was steep and slippery along the waterfall, we managed to be on the top through the rocks of the waterfall and sighed a moment of relief. The view was magnificent which removed all the tiredness. From the top one can get view of Lohagad fort which was among the clouds giving beautiful view and a little far Pavana Dam.

Above fort there no remains remaining you would not even find a shelter to hide in case of rains. We found other people present on the fort too when enquired got to know that they have reached from the other side of the fort which more slippery and muddy than from where we came.

To reach this waterfall you will have to continue towards Lohagad when you are coming from Bhaje Caves. To the right will be Lohagad and to the immediate left will Visapur near the road. Take left after crossing the fort and this is the side where there is muddy road to a tiny village. Continue on this and after some 600 meters you will find red marks suggesting the way to the waterfall from where we reached the top.

difficulty level:
In case of rains level of difficulty would be high.

After moving around on the fort and taking a view from all sides of the fort we started to descend this was a uphill task. Trekking down the waterfall and while we were moving down even the rains started, actually it was not raining but it was pouring. The rains were very heavy and it was difficult to manage getting down even the water in the waterfall was increasing.

It took us 70-80 min to be on top and the same while coming back.
After reaching back all I would say was that was what I would call a trekking experience.
