Pandharpur is a Spiritual Temple in Maharashtra which has a huge following. During annual Pandharpur Yatra (Pilgrimage)  millions of people visit and worship Lord Vitthal and Rukmini. Well I visited this temple on 11th February 2017.

Pandharpur is well connected by road ways and railways from major cities like Pune and Solapur in the neighborhood.

We traveled by private vehicle and the road is pretty good condition till Temburni as it is part of Solapur Highway. After Temburni you will have to take a right turn under an over bridge to move towards Pandharpur. Pandharpur is about 220 km from Pune and it took us around 2:45hrs to reach.

Vitthal temple is the main centre of worship for Vitthal, believed to be a form of Bhagawan Krishna or Vishnu and his consort Rakhumai. It is the most visited temple in Maharashtra. The Warkaris start marching from their homes to the temple of Pandharpur in groups called Dindi (procession) to reach on Aashadhi Ekadashi and Kartiki Ekadashi. A dip in the holy river Chandrabhaga on whose banks Pandharpur resides, is believed to have power to wash all sins. This is a annual procession held when millions of devotees reach Pandharpur to take blessing at temple.

Pandharpur is well connected by Road, Rail to all the major places. Its state transport bus terminal is one of the biggest in Maharashtra. The nearest airport is Solapur which handles non-schedule charter flights. The nearest Major airport is Pune at 222 Km from Pandharpur.

I have visited many temples but the specialty of this temple is that I liked the most was that upon waiting a few hours in queue you got to get awarded with the darshan of lord so close to you that you can touch the feet of statue to seek blessing. I feel that is the USP of this temple apart from the other pilgrim places around the country.

Do share your experience on visit to this holy place.

Happy travelling…
